Prices quoted for “a website” in Egypt range from a few thousand pounds for a template to six figures for a custom platform, because the word covers very different products. The way to compare quotes fairly is to compare what is actually included.
What decides the cost
- Unique page designs: a home page, a service page template and a contact page are three designs, even if the site has thirty pages.
- Features: online booking, user accounts, payments, a members area, or integrations with a CRM or ERP each add design, development and testing time.
- Arabic and English: a true bilingual site needs right-to-left layouts, Arabic typography and translated content, not just a language switcher.
- CMS or custom: WordPress or a headless CMS is faster for content-led sites; a custom build (for example Next.js) suits sites that behave like applications.
- Content and SEO: copywriting, photography, page metadata, structured data and a sitemap are often left out of cheap quotes.
- Hosting, security and maintenance: an SSL certificate, backups, updates and monitoring are ongoing costs, not one-off.
Typical timeline
A focused site of up to around ten pages usually takes 3–5 weeks: one week for discovery and structure, one to two for design, and one to two for build, content and testing. Each major feature, such as bookings or user accounts, typically adds one to two weeks. The fastest projects are the ones where content and approvals are ready on time.
What a good quote should include
- A page list and the number of unique designs.
- The features in scope, and what is explicitly out of scope.
- Who writes the content and who provides images.
- Mobile responsiveness, accessibility and page-speed targets.
- SEO basics: titles, descriptions, structured data, sitemap and redirects from any old site.
- Security: HTTPS, security headers, protected admin login, backups and update policy.
- Ownership: you should own the domain, the hosting account and the code or CMS.
- Support after launch, and its monthly cost.
Do not skip security
Most small-business websites that get hacked are not targeted; they are found by bots scanning for outdated plugins and weak admin passwords. A secure build costs little more than an insecure one, and it is far cheaper than cleaning up after an infection or a blacklisted domain. Compare quotes by what is included, not by the headline price. The cheapest website is often the one you have to rebuild a year later.
